Remember when you were a kid and you just threw all of your toys away when it was time to clean up? Unlike those toys, it’s imperative to clean your sex toys thoroughly before their next use. Sex toys should make your ‘me time’ feel better or add some spice to your sex life with a partner. In order to do so, you have to maintain the condition and cleanliness of your toys to keep them running smoothly and safe for your next use.
Why should I clean my sex toy?
If you want your toy to last and work well, then you need to take proper care of it. No one wants their toy to break while getting busy in the bedroom.
Keeping your toy clean also ensures it’s safe to use on every use. Sex toys especially need cleaning since they navigate a sensitive area. After use, sex toys are particularly vulnerable to collecting bacteria which could become harmful for the next use.; imagine having to put a bacteria-ridden object near, on, or inside of your fun zones—no thanks! Cleaning your toys lets you enjoy the full pleasure without having to wonder if it is safe.
How do I clean my toy?
That depends on the toy! The two most important things to take into consideration are the toy material and whether it’s motorized or not. For total sterilization, toys that are made of silicone, pyrex, stone or stainless steel and non-motorized can be boiled for 8-10 minutes or run through the dishwasher without soap. Toys made of glass or wood, or motorized should be wiped down with a damp cloth and mild soap. Check out some of our toy cleaners here and see what kind works best for your toy!
There are other materials that are much more sensitive like cyberskin. Use warm water and a very small amount of soap so that the material isn’t at risk of damage from over-sudsing. Porous materials like hard plastic, elastomer, and jelly rubber are difficult to completely sterilize of all bacteria. We recommend using a condom if it will be used with a partner even after washing with soap and water.
Leather materials that don’t come in contact with any bodily fluids can we wiped down with soap and water. If it happens to get a little dirty in the moment then try using a rubbing alcohol solution to disinfect it.
When it’s clean…
Once you’re finished cleaning your toy, dry it off with a clean paper towel and store it in a case or a silk bag. This will help keep it safe from outside bacteria and ready for your next use.
